4-Day Fes to Marrakech Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Fes, Ifrane, Azrou, Midelt, Ziz Valley and Merzouga

Depart from Fes in the morning and travel into the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, known for its distinctive architecture and green spaces. Continue towards the cedar forests near Azrou, where you can enjoy the woodland scenery and may spot Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.

The road then passes through Midelt and mountainous landscapes before reaching the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and panoramic viewpoints. As the route continues south, the scenery becomes increasingly arid until you arrive in Merzouga, close to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Depending on your arrival time and the selected package, you may enjoy a camel ride at sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at the desert camp.

Day 2: Merzouga, Erg Chebbi Dunes and Sahara Exploration

Start the day by watching the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, explore the surroundings of Merzouga. An optional 4×4 excursion can take you along desert tracks, past fossil areas and through landscapes on the edge of the dunes.

You can also visit Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa musical heritage, and learn more about local communities and their traditions. Visits to nomadic families depend on availability and prior arrangements. In the afternoon, return to Merzouga to relax and enjoy the desert atmosphere. Dinner and a second overnight stay in the Merzouga area at a local accommodation.

Day 3: Merzouga, Rissani, Todra Gorges and Dades Valley

After breakfast, leave Merzouga for Rissani, a town known for its traditional market and historical importance in the region. Continue through pre-desert landscapes towards the Todra Gorges near Tinghir. Towering rock walls form a striking canyon where you can take a walk and enjoy the scenery.

Travel onward through palm groves and villages in the Todra Valley, with views of traditional architecture and agricultural landscapes. In the afternoon, reach the Dades Valley, known for its rock formations, kasbahs and scenic roads. Enjoy some time in the area before dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel or riad in the valley.

Day 4: Dades Valley, Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakech

After breakfast, follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs towards Ouarzazate. Along the way, admire earthen villages, oasis landscapes and the varied scenery of southern Morocco. Depending on the schedule, there may be time for a panoramic stop around Skoura or Ouarzazate.

Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a traditional earthen ksar listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through its narrow lanes and discover its historic architecture. Then cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying mountain views on the descent towards Marrakech.
