Five-day tour itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech, High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou and Dades Valley

Depart Marrakech and follow the mountain road into the High Atlas. As the vehicle climbs, the scenery changes between deep valleys, rugged slopes and villages built with traditional materials. The Tizi n Tichka pass provides viewpoints where you can stop for photographs and appreciate the geography of the region. Continue towards Ait Ben Haddou, a historic settlement known for its earthen buildings, decorated towers and narrow lanes. Walking through the site offers insight into the importance of fortified settlements along historic trading routes that connected different parts of Morocco.

After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, continue through Ouarzazate and along the route of the kasbahs. Villages, cultivated plots and dry landscapes appear along the way, contrasting with greener areas near seasonal waterways. The road then leads towards the Dades Valley, where rock formations and palm groves create a distinctive southern Moroccan landscape. Arrive at the planned accommodation later in the day. The evening offers time to relax after the drive, enjoy the surrounding scenery and prepare for the journey towards the gorges and Sahara on the following day.

Day 2: Dades Valley, Todra Gorges and Merzouga

After breakfast, travel through the Dades region towards the Todra Gorges. Here, high rock walls rise above the river and form a natural corridor whose appearance changes with the daylight. If the schedule allows, take a walk in the surrounding area, admire the mountains and capture photographs. Continue through inland towns towards Erfoud, a settlement associated with the pre-Saharan landscape and known for its fossils. During the drive, the environment becomes increasingly dry as the mountains give way to wide open plains and desert scenery.

Depending on the agreed schedule, there may also be a stop in Rissani, known for its traditional market and historic links to regional trading routes. In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga beside the Erg Chebbi dunes. Your Sahara experience begins here, with access to the camp by camel or by the transfer specified in your booking. On arrival, there is time to admire the dunes and watch the sunset. Dinner and overnight arrangements depend on the confirmed camp package, giving you an opportunity to spend the night in the desert environment.

Day 3: Merzouga, Erg Chebbi dunes and Saharan culture

The day can begin early to watch sunrise over the dunes. The changing light brings out different shades in the sand and reveals a new perspective on the Erg Chebbi landscape. After breakfast, spend time exploring the area around Merzouga. Depending on the agreed programme, an excursion may include regional villages, oasis areas and places associated with local musical traditions. Along the way, observe how homes, cultivation and everyday activities adapt to an environment with limited rainfall. Stops depend on the time available and the services confirmed when the tour is booked.

The remainder of the day allows you to enjoy the desert without another long transfer. Walk near the dunes, relax at the accommodation or appreciate the scenery from a quiet viewpoint. If conditions are suitable, sunset provides a memorable opportunity to watch the sand change colour and the shadows lengthen across the dunes. The experience focuses on the landscape and regional life while respecting local communities and customs. At the end of the day, return to the planned accommodation in Merzouga for dinner and rest before continuing the journey the next morning.

Day 4: Merzouga, Draa Valley and Ouarzazate

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and travel west as the return journey towards Marrakech continues. The route passes through desert scenery and transitional areas between the dunes, plateaus and inhabited valleys. Depending on the selected route and road conditions, the journey may pass through towns such as Alnif and Tazarine before reaching the Draa Valley. This region is known for extensive palm groves, villages and traditional earthen buildings. Stops along the way offer opportunities to see how oasis agriculture creates cultivated areas within an otherwise dry environment.

As the journey continues, the landscape gradually changes, revealing settlements, fields and kasbahs that reflect how local communities have adapted to the climate. Travel time depends on the chosen route, stops and road conditions. Use the planned breaks to stretch, take photographs and enjoy the scenery without rushing the journey. Later in the day, arrive in the Ouarzazate area and check in to the planned accommodation. This overnight stop divides the return drive into more comfortable stages and allows time to rest before crossing the High Atlas again.

Day 5: Ouarzazate, High Atlas and return to Marrakech

After breakfast, leave Ouarzazate and drive towards Marrakech. The road crosses the High Atlas Mountains again, offering views of valleys, villages and slopes in different colours. As the vehicle climbs towards the Tizi n Tichka pass, scenic stops may be possible if time and road conditions permit. The journey shows the transition between the dry landscapes of the south and the mountain scenery surrounding Marrakech. The driver can adapt the breaks to the group while keeping the planned schedule and travel conditions in mind.

After crossing the pass, descend towards the plains and continue to Marrakech. Arrival time depends on traffic, weather and the number of stops made during the day. On reaching the city, transfer to your accommodation or the agreed drop-off point. The tour ends after five days of exploring historic kasbahs, rocky gorges, oasis valleys and Saharan dunes. If you wish to extend your stay, additional nights in Marrakech or further city visits can be arranged separately. The final itinerary should be confirmed before departure so that the services and accommodation match the booking.
