4-Day Itinerary from Errachidia to Marrakech

Day 1: Errachidia – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga

Your journey begins with pickup at your hotel, the airport or another agreed meeting point in Errachidia. Travel south through the Ziz Valley, known for its extensive palm groves, rocky cliffs and sweeping views over the oasis. There will be opportunities to stop at viewpoints and admire the contrast between the arid mountains and the green ribbon of vegetation along the valley. Continue to Erfoud, a town known for fossils and local workshops, where a short visit may be possible if time allows.

Continue to Merzouga, near the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes. On arrival, you will have time to settle in and enjoy the desert scenery. Depending on your arrival time and the conditions, you may take a camel ride at sunset to a camp among the dunes. Dinner and an overnight stay in the desert follow. A vehicle transfer can be arranged instead of a camel ride if preferred or if conditions make the activity unsuitable.

Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and travel to Rissani, a town connected with the historic trading routes of the Tafilalet region. If the market is open and timing permits, you can walk among the stalls and see local produce and everyday goods. Continue through the villages and palm groves around Tinejdad, with suitable breaks along the way for rest, photographs or lunch at your own expense.

Later, reach Todra Gorge, famous for its tall rock walls and the narrow passage carved by the river. Take a walk through an accessible section and enjoy the dramatic natural setting. The journey then continues to the Dades Valley, an area of red mountains, traditional villages and distinctive rock formations. Arrive at your accommodation in the valley in the late afternoon or evening, enjoy dinner according to your confirmed booking and spend the night there.

Day 3: Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, follow the Dades Valley road through rugged scenery, villages and cultivated fields. Continue towards the Valley of Roses, known for rose-growing and rose-based products during the relevant season. There will be opportunities for scenic stops and, depending on the time available, a closer look at some of the local villages and landscapes.

The route then leads to Skoura, a palm oasis with traditional earthen kasbahs and historic architecture. If opening hours and timing allow, you may visit Kasbah Amridil, subject to applicable entrance fees. Continue to Ouarzazate, a town known for its desert landscapes, kasbahs and links to film production. Arrive at your accommodation in the afternoon and enjoy some time to relax before the final drive to Marrakech the following day.

Day 4: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, travel to Ait Ben Haddou, a historic earthen ksar recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through its lanes and discover traditional buildings rising along the hillside. The visit will depend on the time available and local access conditions. The site offers an insight into the architecture and history of southern Morocco and its former settlements along important trade routes.

Continue towards Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains, following the road over the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Scenic stops may be made at safe and suitable viewpoints. The route passes mountain landscapes and scattered villages before descending towards the Marrakech plain. Your journey ends with drop-off at your hotel, riad or another agreed location in the city. Arrival time depends on traffic, weather and the number of stops made along the way.
