The experience combines natural landscapes, traditional architecture and local culture, ending in Fez on the fifth day.

Five-day tour itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech, High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou and Dades Valley

Leave Marrakech in a private vehicle and follow the road through the High Atlas Mountains. The climb reveals valleys, mountain slopes and rural villages, with scenic stops when time allows. As you cross the Tizi n Tichka pass, the landscape gradually changes and different aspects of rural life become visible. Continue towards Ait Ben Haddou, a historic settlement known for its earthen buildings, towers and traditional layout. Exploring the site provides an introduction to southern Moroccan architecture and the role these fortified settlements played along historic trading routes.

After the visit, continue through Ouarzazate towards the Dades Valley. Kasbahs, villages and cultivated areas appear along the road, contrasting with the surrounding mountains and dry terrain. The scenery illustrates the relationship between settlements, water and the natural environment. Arrive at the planned accommodation in the Dades region later in the afternoon. The remainder of the day is available for rest and for enjoying the surroundings before continuing towards the Todra Gorges and the Merzouga Desert on the following stage.

Day 2: Dades Valley, Todra Gorges and Merzouga

After breakfast, travel towards the Todra Gorges, known for their rock walls and the narrow passage beside the river. If the schedule allows, walk in the area and observe how daylight changes the colour of the cliffs. Continue towards Erfoud through increasingly dry and open landscapes. The town is known for fossils and its location in a region that gradually transitions towards the Sahara. The drive reveals changes in geography between valleys, small settlements and the arid expanses that characterise southeastern Morocco.

Depending on the time available, there may be a stop in Rissani to experience the atmosphere of its traditional market. Arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon, close to the Erg Chebbi dunes. After arranging access to the camp according to your booking, there is time to enjoy the scenery and watch the sunset. Access may be by camel or by the transfer included in the confirmed package. Dinner and overnight arrangements follow the conditions of your reservation. Spending the night in the desert offers time to appreciate the quiet surroundings before continuing through the region the next day.

Day 3: Merzouga and desert experience

The day may begin with sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, when the light changes the shades of the sand. After breakfast, explore the area around Merzouga on an excursion adapted to the agreed programme. Depending on the route, stops may include regional villages, oasis areas and places connected with local musical traditions. These visits provide an introduction to daily life in an area where water and climate influence community activities. The exact excursion depends on the time available, local conditions and the services included in the booking.

The afternoon allows you to enjoy the desert at a slower pace before the road journey scheduled for the following day. Walk around the area, relax at the accommodation or spend time observing the dunes. If conditions are suitable, sunset offers wide views of the landscape and the changing colours of the sand. The day combines free time with an introduction to the natural and cultural surroundings of Merzouga without covering long distances. At the end of the day, return to the planned accommodation for dinner and rest. Confirm in advance whether your package includes a second night in the Merzouga area or at the desert camp.

Day 4: Merzouga, Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and travel north towards Fez. The route crosses the Ziz Valley, known for its palm groves and views across the oasis areas that follow the river. Along the way, desert scenery gives way to plateaus, mountains and agricultural land. The journey may include scenic stops to admire the valley and take photographs, provided that the schedule and road conditions permit. Continue through the Errachidia region towards Midelt, a town situated between mountain ranges and areas with changing climates.

As the route enters the Middle Atlas, the scenery becomes different from the Sahara, with temperatures and vegetation that vary according to the season. Forests and mountain towns appear in some areas. Travel time depends on traffic and the number of stops made along the way. It is useful to carry drinking water and keep travel essentials close at hand during the drive. Arrive in Fez according to the confirmed schedule and transfer to the agreed accommodation. This stage connects the desert regions of southeastern Morocco with one of the country most important historic cities.

Day 5: Discover Fez and end of the tour

After breakfast, enjoy time to discover Fez, a city known for its historic heritage, handicrafts and traditional medina. Depending on your schedule and booked services, you can walk through the medina lanes, observe artisan workshops and explore markets selling local products. The city architecture reflects different historical periods and preserves spaces dedicated to trade and traditional crafts. Entrance to monuments and the services of a local guide should be confirmed separately unless they are expressly included in your reservation.

During your visit, respect local customs and remember that some streets in the medina are narrow and busy. A local guide can help explain the history of the neighbourhoods, the organisation of the souks and the importance of traditional crafts. If a guided visit has not been booked, use the available time to explore independently or rest before the final transfer. The tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation or another agreed location in Fez. If you would like to explore the city in greater depth, consider arranging an extra night and a guided visit for the following day.
