This private 3-day tour connects Marrakech, the Sahara Desert, and Fes through some of southern Morocco’s most memorable landscapes. Cross the High Atlas Mountains, explore the historic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, and travel through valleys and traditional towns towards Merzouga. In the Sahara, discover the dunes of Erg Chebbi and spend the night at a desert camp. On the final day, continue north through the Tafilalet region and the Middle Atlas towards Fes. This route combines mountain scenery, desert landscapes, and traditional settlements. The itinerary includes long drives, especially on the final day, so an early departure is essential.

3-Day Marrakech to Merzouga and Fes Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech, High Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou, and Dades Valley

Meet your driver in Marrakech and begin the journey towards the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs through mountain scenery, passing small villages and terraced fields. Cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and stop at suitable viewpoints for photographs when conditions allow. Continue towards Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortified village built with traditional earthen materials. Explore its narrow lanes and admire the kasbahs rising above the surrounding landscape. The village is recognised for its architectural heritage and has served as a filming location for several international productions. Allow time to walk through the site before continuing the journey south.

Travel through Ouarzazate and follow the route towards the Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses, depending on the itinerary and available time. Along the way, observe traditional villages, palm groves, and fortified buildings that reflect the history of the region. Continue towards the Dades Valley, where unusual rock formations and rugged hills create distinctive views. Your driver can stop at selected viewpoints if time and road conditions permit. Arrive at your hotel or guesthouse in the Dades area later in the day. Enjoy dinner and rest before continuing towards the Sahara the following morning. The precise schedule may vary according to traffic and the time spent at each stop.

Day 2: Dades Valley, Todra Gorges, Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga

After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and travel towards the Todra Gorges. The route passes villages and rocky terrain before reaching the narrow canyon, where high limestone walls rise above the river. Take time to walk through the accessible part of the gorge and photograph the surrounding cliffs. This stop offers a closer look at the natural landscapes of the Atlas region. Continue towards the Tafilalet area, passing dry plains, small settlements, and cultivated patches supported by local water sources. The scenery gradually becomes more arid as you approach the Sahara.

Pass through Erfoud, a town associated with fossils and date production, and continue towards Rissani, an important historic trading centre. If the schedule permits, stop briefly to explore the town or its traditional market. Then travel to Merzouga, near the impressive dunes of Erg Chebbi. Depending on your booking, reach the desert camp by camel or another arranged transfer. Enjoy the sunset as the colours shift across the sand. In the evening, have dinner at the camp and relax beneath the desert sky. Overnight accommodation is in a Merzouga desert camp. Camp facilities, room types, and transfer arrangements depend on the package selected when booking.

Day 3: Merzouga, Tafilalet, Middle Atlas, and Arrival in Fes

Rise early to enjoy sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, if weather conditions permit. After breakfast, leave the desert and begin the journey north towards Fes. The first part of the route crosses the Tafilalet region, known for its extensive palm groves and historic settlements. Continue through changing landscapes as the road moves away from the Sahara. The route generally passes through or near Errachidia and the Ziz Valley, where views of the river corridor and palm plantations offer a contrast with the open desert. Your driver will arrange suitable breaks during this long transfer, depending on the schedule and road conditions.

Continue towards Midelt, a town situated between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain ranges. The road then climbs into cooler mountain scenery, with cedar forests and small communities appearing along parts of the route. Depending on the selected route, traffic, and available daylight, there may be an opportunity to pass through Ifrane, known for its distinctive architecture and green surroundings. Stops are limited because the journey from Merzouga to Fes covers a considerable distance. Continue to Fes, where your driver will drop you off at the agreed location. Arrival time varies according to road conditions and breaks. This final day is mainly a transfer, rather than a full sightseeing day.
